Captain Cook

Captain Cook was a great British Explorer. He was known for being a great Captain, who kept his men healthy.

Here is Captain Cook's ship, it was called the Endeavour. If you were a sailor on the Captain's ship you would have to keep things very clean. You would have to work very hard. He would also make you eat dry biscuits, salted pork and sauerkraut. He would make you eat sauerkraut because it has vitamin C and you need Vitamin C when you are a sailor. If a sailor didn't have enough Vitamin C - he would get a disease called Scurvy. Captain Cook never had a sailor die of Scurvy.

Captain Cook discovered many lands for England. This is Hawaii. He discovered these islands but the people did not like him.

This is another land that Captain Cook discovered. Australia! His men were so amazed by the land and the animals. They discovered the Kangaroo in Australia. They had never seen an animal like this. Captain Cook also wrote in his journals that it tasted very good.

TALK LIKE A SAILOR ON CAPTAIN COOK'S SHIP Lets pretend your a sailor! Sailor's use different words to describe things on a ship:
You would call someone that lives on land a LANDLUBBER. It the Captain wanted you to clean the ship , he would say MATEY, SWAB THE DECK!!! If you got hungry and wanted to eat you would go eat on the MESS DECK. That is what the sailor called the dining room.
